Honour Your Heath Challenge – Week Four-ward

Wow, It’s difficult to be away from home and on a health challenge where I have pledged to lose 10 pounds over 6 weeks. And to help myself along the way I would keep my daily food journal. Well, I’ve been on a retreat for the previous 5 days and am back home now and I retro-listed (I love this concept) my food journals for last Tuesday thru Friday. It included the “juicy wine”; sea salt and black pepper, kettle-cooked peanuts; the curry chicken and fries from the Haida Way restaurant on the Trans Canada Highway outside of Chemainus; and all the healthy (and otherwise) snacks at the Tsa Kwa Luten Lodge on Quadra Island. It was a glorious opportunity to rid myself of un-needed memories; bad energy; meet new, amazing people and recharge myself surrounded by the land-animals and spirits of the area. I came away with a feeling of a renewal. Not a new start – but the boost I needed to keep going with new fuel and goals.

I’m on the cusp of a huge trip to Europe and am beginning to be overwhelmed with all the things to do before we leave and all the things we will be doing and seeing on our trip to Amsterdam then down the Rhine to Switzerland then home. I feel like a child and bit frightened by new and exciting things.

But..back to staying pumped to lose weight. I am doing it. I’ve done some walking and it feels good. The hardest part of the exercise isn’t the motivation any more – it’s putting on my running(thus walking, for me) shoes. I have a difficult time bending over and getting them on. I need a shoe horn etc. But I love my runners. But, I hate wearing socks and we all know runners smell after being worn more than once with no socks. Pheww!!!

Oh, well, I’ll work it out. New Balance has an interesting slip-on for walking and it sure looks comfortable. I’ll put that on to-do list for tomorrow but it’s hard to find nice size 11’s.
