Sports Bra = Exercise?

Wanted sports braI got to thinking this morning about all the reasons (notice, they are “reasons” not excuses) I have a hard time exercising. I have the FTO gene; my right knee is shot with osteoarthritis; I have artificial hips and a fear of falling; my shoulders now are now riddled with bone spurs, also from osteoarthritis; I have a difficult time bending over to put on the correct socks for my running/walking/cross fit shoes; and I don’t have a sports bra.

It might fit!

I do have a couple of bras that don’t have underwires and I could use them I guess but I need something with either front closure or over the head. I am also in the “plus size” so it is difficult to get a decent sports bra that fits (not XS, M, L, or XL) and doesn’t look like the leatherette thingies on sporty cars.

My Mom gave me a sports bra a long time ago. She bought it with the intent to go to work-out classes and not bounce. She never wore it and she never went. She had even more “reasons’ than I have. I remember trying it on. It was a pullover type. It was what I would call “industrial strength” and I felt like a medieval maiden being forced into a chastity belt. I never wore it either and it was donated to the “Bras on Broad St” cancer awareness event. For all I know, it became a duplex nest for twin bald eagles.

But, now I’m wondering if such a bra would be a good thing for me, with or without exercise? The news has been telling us for a few years now that underwire bras may contribute to breast cancer. I don’t know about that. I think being a girl may contribute to breast cancer. Sigh. Just as it was difficult to find good, women’s, size 11 running/walking/cross fit shoes and spandex exercise capris (Lululemon says they are not for my body type so don’t buy Lululemon). I don’t even know where to start. I guess I could go to a fitting at one of the major department stores and ask the bra reps what to do.

I just Googled “Plus Size Sports Bra” and Lane Bryant came up. Nice bras! But, this means I will have to wait until Spring Break and go shopping to the south. Because… buying a bra on-line is very difficult. You don’t get to try it on until it arrives at your house and the delivery person may get embarrassed. None of the chain, plus size ladies-wear stores here in Canada seem to carry sports bras, but I did see some really cute and sexy bras I might be interested in. Wink, wink, nudge, nudge.

Enough of this. I will do what I can with what I have. Hmm, that sounds like a great philosophy I may have shared many, many times. Thanks for listening!  ;D  Diane
