The Last Weigh-In of 2013

It’s almost the end of the year and I have one more Doctor’s appointment on New Year’s Eve. I’m dreading the weigh-in because of all the feasting and foraging. I baked this year and, of course, there are the Christmas Day traditionals like homemade cinnamon buns.  Even though cinnamon raises my metabolism and lowers blood pressure, I’m not sure how well that works wrapped in butter, brown sugar and yeasty dough. And there’s sausage stuffing, gravy by the quart and wine and spirits. Oh, my and the leftovers and you know how I hate to waste food or anything. Why so much food?

Then we had friends over for a holiday brunch to celebrate our visitors from Calgary and their new grandchild. So much amazing conversation, sharing and food. Now I’m dealing with the double guilt puppies of “not wasting food” and “small but multiple morsel availability”. Yes, mini-biscotti, shrimp, fruit, muffins with cream cheese icing, samosas with mango sauce, and even some chocolate milk that was originally for the toddler. Sigh, of course I do have the option of going for another walk. But I think it will take a few walks around Vancouver Island to work this fest (feast) off.

But as we head into the new year it is a time to review the things that worked and what didn’t.
Getting on the scale every day doesn’t work.
Getting weighed by the Dr ever two weeks does.
Sitting on my bottom and thinking about what I want to eat doesn’t work.
Getting up and going out for a walk instead of eating does.
Hating myself for falling of the diet doesn’t work.
Loving myself works.
Being negative, guilty and hopeful doesn’t work.
Being thankful, thoughtful and doing, does work.

There, I think I’ve got a couple of wonderful things going for me and tomorrow’s weigh-in doesn’t scare me (much) anymore. I am thankful for all the people who love and support me. I am thankful that I am still mobile and my pain doesn’t rule me (yet).

So, on this note. I’ll say thanks for listening and go pet a couple of my guilt puppies as I down the second of my 8 mugs of water. Thanks, ;D Diane
