TV Makes Me Fat! Get Off The Freak’n Couch!!!!

couch potatoI was thinking that I haven’t written a blog posting in a while and, even though I am writing the great Canadian novel (4 of them actually) I will take some time out of my busy schedule and tell the world about the insidious (bonus vocabulary points) threat to the world’s health – TV!

There is study after study showing the rising statistics on obesity in North America and the lack of activity in our daily lives. It is affecting children as young as two and seniors, too. We park ourselves in front of the screen and sit. And sometimes, we eat there, too.

I have a kitchen table and a dining room table but where do I usually eat? In the living room in front of the TV. I’m going to claim the FTO gene for not wanting to exercise. It’s an excuse but it is a good one.

But then there’s all the advertising on TV. They make the worst burgers in the world look mouth-watering and then, I cravamerican idlee one – RIGHT NOW!!!! I hate when they put a Jennie Craig commercial right before a flame-broiled burger commercial then a Special K one right after. I hate that woman in the red dress. There are so many food commercials on TV even the ones with the diet foods are inciting me to eat then sit there and eat some more.

I haven’t even mentioned the channels on TV, yet. The Food Channel – I love road trips but now I want to take one solely based on Diners, Dive-ins and Dives…sigh. Donut competitions, things made with sugar, Italian Cooking, Indian Foods…Oh heck, it’s happening again. The public TV channel – KVOS, even has its own cookbook…. What’s a person to do when they assault us continuously with food and drink on TV????

Sleepy dogOh, yeah, I know. GET OFF THE FREAK’N COUCH, DIANE! Even my guilt puppy is kind of slow on this one. I need physical activity. I need walking. I need exercise in fun ways. I need to dance. I need more than anything, to get off the couch and turn off the TV! I can do it. You do it, too! And limit your PVR, at least there you can forward past the diet and food commercials.

Thanks for listening. I’ll see you on my walk. ;D Diane

  1. Can you exercise in front of the TV instead? Maybe a stationary bike? When I had a gym membership I used to time my visits to coincide with my fave problems (made me want to stay there longer!)
