First Aid

I took an Emergency First Aid course yesterday. My knees and hips hurt from being on the floor half the day. But even though this was a re-certification for me I learned things. Heart Disease is now the #1 killer of women in Canada and probably in the US, too. Hmmm, I’m a woman. I am obese. I have high blood pressure. I am diabetic (close enough). I am sendentary. Holy crap! I have a whole pile of “risk factors”. I will not be depressed by this – I will use this as a catalyst for my activities and directions this week. And… my week will start today.

Current life style out of stock

First aid is literally being the first person to help an injured person. It can be as easy as kissing a boo boo away or as hard as trying to save a person who isn’t breathing. After taking the test to be certified to use a defibrillator, I looked at myself and wondered if anyone around me would be able to keep me alive if I collapsed with a heart attack or stoke. I need to teach my husband how to do chest compressions. But…

I can do somethings to help myself right away. I will eat better (all the time), I will exercise more ( and consistently), and I will love myself. I’m doing these things to a certain extent but sometimes we need the smack upside the head or the gentle reminder of why and how to take care of ourselves.
