I just finished doing an on-line survey about beer. Hmmph. I don’t drink beer very often but it just so happens I had three of them this week. What the heck, the sun came out!!!!

I went for “coffee” and a light lunch with my friend, Nansi at McCrae’s. It was warm, sunny and Friday. She wasn’t there when I got there just before 1 so I looked at the menus. There are two. One for food and one for drinks. They even include non-alcoholic drinks on this one. If it’s an alcoholic drink and if you drink it are you an alcoholic or just the drink is? Hmmm…I ordered a beer and Nansi had a cider. We were there for quite a while while talking and eating. The Blue Moon wings (buffalo and bleu cheese saucy, wow)  were awesome and since it was a blue moon, very appropriate.

I don’t usually drink beer. We all know that water is my beverage of choice but…they had Phillips Hop Circle on draught! I love Phillips Brewery. It’s a very local micro-brewery with a huge sense of humour. They make a selection of hoppy beers. They make other kinds, too, with things like ginger and raspberry and the normal stuff, as well. Recently, for their 11th anniversary they made Pandemonium, a very hoppy beer indeed but they sold out in days. Sigh. I did get two big bottles but I’m saving the second one for…I don’t know, maybe the last BBQ of the summer and to share. Anyways, because of a variety pack, I found out I really like hoppy beers. Hops are that funny looking flower that flavours most beers. If I retire maybe a little hop ranch up island would be nice. I could be part of the 100 mile diet!

On my way home, I stopped at my favourite liquor store (6 Mile) and picked up a cold six-pack of Hop Circle for the long weekend. Norm was already home so we sat on the deck enjoying our beers. He doesn’t like hoppy beer so he had something else which was very unimportant to me. Because I am the only one in my family that likes hoppy beer, and I don’t drink beer very often, there are NEVER any hoppy beers in my house. This weekend there are.

When I was looking for a picture of Hop Circle I went to the Phillips website and discovered recipes. Most alcohol-related websites have recipes and they are amazing!  I’m including one here that I might try while I still have Hop Circle in the house.

Ass-Kickin’ Beer Cheese

-four garlic cloves
-four cups sharp cheddar
-a six-pack of Hop Circle IPA

Grate four cups of the sharp cheddar and peel four garlic cloves. Combine the two in a food processor and puree. Slowly add the IPA, about a 1/4 cup or untill smooth. Transfer to a bowl and let sit in the fridge up to hour. Now you can spread this ass-kickin’ cheese on any thing. I put mine on spicy bbq buffalo burgers with grilled onions. BOOM BOOM!! Dont forget to enjoy the rest of the beer.

Pair with Hop Circle, Amnesiac, Skookum (OMG  – beer pairings!)

IF YOU GOT THIS FAR IN MY BLOG, YOU’VE REALIZED THAT THIS IS NOT A HEALTH OR DIET-RELATED TOPIC. I’m just having fun and will be back to normal by 10 AM this morning. I’ve already made Norm’s oatmeal pancakes (the recipe makes lots so he can nuke them all week and I only have two small ones from the whole bunch, I’m full!). Now I have to publish this and get back to housework. I get to dust today because I’m caning it and not using the walker. I’m allowed! So… have a wonderful Labour Day weekend and thanks for listening.  ;D Diane
