Blood Work

I have to go get blood tests done this morning. It’s all part of the annual physical. So, no coffee for me. Actually, I wonder if coffee would change any of the test results. I don’t have milk or sugar just good and black. I’ll that!

Wow, I did not know that. Caffeine can temporarily raise blood sugar levels even without cream or sugar. You’re not supposed to eat or drink anything except water. You can’t even chew gum. You’re not even allowed to exercise. I can obey that one. They say, “Act like a monk.” I do the nun/none thing instead!

Yes, I’m always worried about what these things say about my blood sugar. I have a testing kit and I watch what I eat and even how I eat sometimes but… Since I haven’t been able to do much exercise I know that will have some bearing on how good it reads. My Mom was  a Type 2 diabetic and both my brothers have been diagnosed and now my sister has the hypoglycemic indicators of pre-diabetes. I don’t want to be the big DIABETIC but understand the line between pre-diabetes and diabetes are not really there anymore. Health authorities say we all can/should eat as if we were diabetics and we would never be one. Sigh. I guess/I know I have to watch all kinds of things in my health and blood tests are just one way to do this. Cholesterol, hormone levels, and the regular “hematology profile”.  (Yes, I’m at that certain age where the power surges are diminishing and mood swings aren’t quite so lethal.) Hell, I’m almost on the edge of shoulding on myself.

Blood work. That sounds so cool. I don’t mind needles at all and am quite proud of how well I can fill a test tube or five. Blood work is something I think I’m pretty good at. I do resent that I won’t be able to hide anything. But then If I’m hiding something, who am I hurting? Me? Aren’t I the one I want to protect and make as healthy as possible? Duh!!! It’s like cheating on your diet. Who the hell do you think you’re cheating? Once again …DUH!!

I’m off to get bled. Thanks for listening. ;D Diane
