The Avengers – Role Models?

My daughter Shauna took me to see the Avengers in 3D last night. It was part of my Mother’s day Present. It was fabulous!!! I love these type of adventure movies and with my girls, even better. Of course I did subject them to these types of entertainment since they were little. I mean really, who makes their kids watch Conan the Barbarian and the sequel? Yep, the ones with Arnold in them.

With the Avengers, I like the girl to boy ratio 5:1. Of course the Black Widow is Scarlett Johansson in a very, very tight outfit reminiscent of Emma Peel from the Avengers TV show. I will admit I spent most of my early teens wishing I could look just like Emma Peel, she had great martial art skills (way before her time) and she was soooo smart. I think I have the smart down but the rest????? Hai karate!

Back to the Avengers. We know every one of the people in this show had to diet and work out to be casual role models for the rest of us. And, whether we want to or not, we gravitate to one of the characters – physically. I read Thor when I was a kid and always have had an affinity with Norse and Celtic gods so… Yep, he’s my favourite. He was born into herodom where the rest of them have to work at it. Well I know they work at it but they make it look easy.

That’s the problem with movie characters and actors. They don’t live in real-time. They have full-time trainers, chefs, stylists and full entourages. I want an entourage! So, why do we want to emulate these people? Because they are so cool and look great. They also never have to go to the bathroom. How would Ironman do that? You know what added iron in your diet does. And the Black Widow’s suit? And how come the Hulk’s pants grow but his shirt doesn’t?  Oh well. This movie will help me stick to my diet. I want to be able to climb the stairs in the theatre and not just sit in the “handicap” seat with my nose to the screen.

Even the bad guys are cool in movies like this. Loki is Thor’s brother. He gets to have a great helmet, wonderful staff with glowing crystal, long leather coat a la Matrix, and cute hairdo. In Norse mythology, Loki is the trickster god and in the Avengers, he does it a few time but usually just puts humans down. I love tricksters and even had a ferret I called Loki and she was a trickster, too.
Hey, how about I be a trickster hero.  Raven! Ravens are the West Coast native version of the trickster god and in Celtic lore they are the harbingers of battle. I could wear a skin-tight black outfit like: Emma Peel, Black Widow, Selene (Underworld), Katness Evergreen (Hunger Games), Catwoman (any one of them, even Julie Newmar) and Lara Croft (Tomb Raider); even though her poster showed it was a short, but very tight,  black outfit. Okay, now that we have an outfit, what hair style? How about a dark brown, asymmetrical bob with some white (not grey) accents at my face? It will have to swish a bit but never in my eyes. Okay, how about some super powers or natural prowess? I can eat anything in my path; use sarcasm sharper than any mortal blade and talk my way out of anything by making people think it was their idea! I would like a sword. I like swords, not Xena or Conan one but more of a Japanese katana but with bit of engraving on a glass like blade (not light saberish)and special electronic powers like an electro magnetic pulse. Yes!!! Raven needs no champion. Wow! I am Raven. Tee hee hee. That was fun.

Well, I now have a new reason to follow my healthy food regimen (diet). That and the Asgard brothers.

Thanks for listening.   ;D Diane
