Losing It With Ellen Degeneres

You have to stay in shape.
My grandmother, she started walking five miles a day when she was 60.
She’s 97 today and we don’t know where the hell she is.
~Ellen Degeneres

She's Vegan, you know!

Well, that title has many meanings. I’ve gained a crap load of weight back since I got my hip hurt but…it’s coming off already. Of course some was a haircut I got yesterday! I adore Ellen Degeneres, I actually watched her original sitcom! She is one of my idols for instant funny! Her show is no “Whine, Women and Song” show. OK, women and song and we’ll leave the whine for Dr. Phil.

As you can tell, I’ve been watching a lot of TV. Being chained to house with a walker makes going out for a walk a nice thought. I used to dread going for a walk, now I dream of it. My deltoids are building up, though. I did get out yesterday and had to lower my walker down the stairs at our house with a strap. No one was home to help me. Sigh. I can get the thing in and out of my trunk (the back seat is down to fit it into my beautiful car with the handicapped sticker in the front and THAT raises a few eyebrows, I’ll tell you). I parked in a downtown parkade and walked the half a block to the Aveda school. There’s a woman there, who has cut my hair 3 times and I love what she does with it. I still have a bob but it’s a bit shorter and asymmetrical is gone for now. I’m sure at least a half a pound of hair was on the floor. I’m preparing for hair-life in a hospital. One of the steps at Aveda is the “Sensory Journey”. Essence oil is applied to your scalp and then you get a massage of head, shoulders and upper back. Oh MY Goodness that felt so good. Using the walker has made my shoulders and upper arms much firmer – muscle! When the cut is all done I got a “finishing Touch” of burgundy lip colour, all done I looked fabulous! I even felt pretty walking back to the parkade with my walker. I wish IT was candy apple red not utilitarian galvanized.

So, on day 3 after my commitment to my Doctor, I’m doing well. I think Ellen would have given a small nod to my choice of supper last night. Fridays (yes, it was the 13th but it seemed a wonderful day, actually) are “take-out food” night at our house. I really wanted pizza! Ali Baba makes a wonderful multi-grain, thin crust, carnivore with a bit of feta added – mmmmmm. But…. I was strong and got Nandos’ chicken instead. Smoke-grilled chicken and grilled veggies for the side! It was great. Love the Peri-peri spice on the chicken. OK, she wouldn’t have approved of the chicken part but the veggies were her style!

So, as the weekend unfolds with glorious sunshine and the cherry and magnolia are in full bloom, I will think about the rhubarb ready to pick and see what low carb options that gives me. I’ve got stevia and strawberries so…

Thanks for listening. ;D Diane
