Off The Hunger Scale – Eater Dinner

I’ve had a lot of pain lately and been through quite a bit in the past and I always remember nurses and doctors asking me what my pain is on a scale of 1 to 10. It’s very subjective and individualized. Like: “Oh, imagine a knife stabbed right down through your skull and through your right eye and ending in your neck. That’s the migraine pain.” or “It’s the kind of pain you feel when there’s nothing but crushed glass in your hip joint and you have to run a marathon.” And any woman who’s been through labour will tell you, “Imagine what it feels like to poop out a cantaloupe!” But look what I found…

A scale for hunger. I wonder if it increases exponentially like the Richter Scale for earthquakes.

Hunger Level Sensations and Symptoms
1 Starving, weak, dizzy
2 Very hungry, cranky, low energy, a lot of stomach growling
3 Pretty hungry, stomach is growling a little
4 Starting to feel a little hungry
5 Satisfied, neither hungry nor full
6 A little full, pleasantly full
7 A little uncomfortable
8 Feeling stuffed
9 Very uncomfortable, stomach hurts
10 So full you feel sick

We’re heading up to Easter dinner, also know as Eater dinner (actually it was a typo but clearly a Freudian slip). The ads in the paper have been driving me insane. Of course it’s a very short drive. Ham, lamb or turkey? I’ve got a small ham and a turkey (At $.99 a pound, who doesn’t?) in the freezer. I guess I’ll have to ask the family. They usually crave the turkey and then go from 1 to 10 in 2 hours!

Or we could go off the board for something new. Roast duck and quinoa? BBQ’d salmon and Cleopatra salad (my take on Caesar)? How about rabbit stew and fresh-baked bread? OK, I’m really kidding now. It truly is irrelevant since one daughter will be in Calgary and the other will probably be working for double time and I think Norm would be happy with a grilled ham and cheese sandwich. And then there’s the chocolate eggs, right. I wish they made them out of liquorice so I would not want any. Nope, not any! So, I’ll work on the Easter menu and let you have a nice Saturday.

Thanks for listening! ;D Diane Kirby.

  1. Firstly, poor rabbit! Get it out that pan!
I’ve been asked that on a scale of 1-10 question so many times too and your right, my 8 could be the same as your 9 or your 6 but we feel just as bad, we may still be at near breaking point. x
