Wine for Whining

I’ll start with the wine. I found a wonderful Cabernet Sauvignon in my wine cupboard. I was trying to put away some bottles of It’s My Fault ( a nice Mendocino country wine) when I came upon a 2007 bottle of Oyster Bay (New Zealand) Cabernet  Sauvignon. Perfect! I figured I would drink this one and have a space for the other. Great, a solution! I had a bad day and this would/could/should (yes I was in the mood for shoulding on myself) make me feel either better or philosophical. I spun the bottle and I got philosophical.

Now the whine. I had to go to the Orthopaedic Clinic at the hospital for a meeting with the surgeon about setting a day for my hip fixin’. I’ve been at this clinic before so I knew it could take 3 hours to see him. Well, because I didn’t need another x-ray, it only took 2 1/2 hours. I had brought a great book to read but the food channel was on in the waiting room and listening to people like Paula and Jamie was driving all of us nuts. I think the Tim Horton’s in the lobby was cleaning up on Timbits! Finally I saw him and he didn’t have the notes from the last specialist at the last clinic so all he could do was write me a note for 2 months off work and make an appointment for me for today. Sigh!

I want it fixed! I want no pain. I can’t believe I’m going to say this – I want to be at work not sitting in front of the TV. I want to work out with my “Biggest Winner” group! I do not want to win the “Biggest Whiner” trophy! Sigh!

I often give advice to people going through bad times or with issues and I need to listen to and take my own advice. Count your blessings and give thanks for what you have. I have wonderful friends and family! I have a strong heart and health care system. I have a safety net and lots of help at the end of the phone lines. I have a computer where I can dump and express myself. I can still drive and lift my own walker into the trunk (and it fits in my pretty car). I have access to books, movies, TV and real live people. I can be comfortable and want for nothing. I am grateful!

So, back to the wine! It was glorious! Norm and I shared the bottle and a nice meal of leftover roasted veggies, pork chops and  Tater Tots for Norm’s potato course. We used the crystal wine glasses we got for a wedding present almost 35 years ago. I am grateful!

Thanks for listening. ;D Diane

  1. Aww, I’m sorry are going through a rough time healthwise. Nothing wrong with a little whining – feels good to get it out!

  2. Thanks!

  3. hi Diane,
what a frustrating thing, to wait all that time and your doctor doesn’t have the notes! We miss you at work. I hope you get a surgery date soon.
Class went extremely well yesterday. I went hoarse going over the lesson, but the students were attentive and helpful. Kathleen even offered to get me a better marker for the board! So we are ok, but there’s somebody really awesome missing!

  4. Thanks, Caroline! I sigh a lot! Missing you all!
