On Chocolate, Chickpeas and the Shopping Scooter
I just made the most amazing cake. It’s baking as I type. I hope it turns out like the one Lynn made. It is gluten and milk product free. It only has four ingredients and is very high in fibre. (Is this sounding healthy, yet?)Chickpeas, eggs, sugar and chocolate! I figured I deserved a treat because I am losing my mobility and thus my independence.
I thought I would go to the Superstore and do a bit of shopping. I figured I could use the shopping cart like a walker. Yes, I am using a walker even in my house now. Anyway, I got to the store and a cart and while I was talking to Shauna (she works there) my left hip went sideways. She took one look at me and ran and got me a chair to sit in and “re-seat” my hip. Sigh. What was I to do? She suggested that I use one of the store’s “electric shopping carts”. In my head, only really old, fat, handicapped people use those. I guess that’s me. OK, I realize I look subjectively at those using the in-store carts. Now that IS me, I’ll be kinder.
First, I had to learn how to use the thing. It’s a bit like a golf cart but no foot pedals. It even has a backing-up beep so little kids know I’m coming to get them. Then I discover that aisles aren’t really designed for these things and definitely not with another shopping cart in the same aisle and God help you if there’s a pallet full of boxes. OK, I clipped a couple of things but NO people. One little guy wanted a ride. I bet his Grandma has one similar. SIGH! I’m not THAT old, am?
Needless to say, I got my shopping done and help to load it into my car. I sure I burned a few calories out of the house but I sure can’t go far or do much and it’s only going to get worse over the next while. Oh well. I’ll have lots of time to write. Oh, yeah. I bought The Hunger Games to read after the surgery or in the waiting room of the Orthopod (sounds like something that lives on the bottom of the ocean doesn’t it?). Well, thanks for listening. ;D Diane
I just took the cake out of the oven and it smells divine!
So sorry to hear that life and your hip are going a little sideways at the moment!
Thanks for sharing that recipe. I’ll have to try it sometime.
