Tips for Eating Less: Lose Your Utensils

This was one of the tips on my Sparks site, today: 20 Easy Ways to Cut Calories . It was about focusing on what you were doing when you eat and to “put your fork down between bites”. Hmmm, what about the food you eat with your bare hands: fried chicken, hot wings, ice cream cones, cookies, spring rolls, hamburgers, nachos, meatloaf etc?

I remember a diet in the ’70’s where you supposed to eat all your meals with chopsticks. It sure slows you down; try eating salad or soup with chopsticks and a whole steak is hysterical!

There are so many tips and so much advice on what to do to lose weight on the internet, in books, from friends and enemies. Doctors and trainers have drawers full of pamphlets and whole diets. There are nutritionists (the best to consult, really!) who have plastic food to show you portion control. Actually I could probably use the plastic food to make my cupboards and fridge look full. And there are the “weight loss” companies and clubs. You can buy their food, follow their system, count bits and pieces and win with the lowest points. I know I have to do what works for me. I know when I do concentrate on the taste and food in front of me I naturally slow down and enjoy it. And chewing helps. I understand that people with gastric bypasses have to chew food until it’s almost liquid. It has something to do with absorption and enjoying every iota of taste. I like taste. Mmmm! My daughter, Leanne, gave me a couple of taste sprays to help the diet along. They actually work. Just a little pump and my mouth filled with the taste of strawberry shortcake or chocolate brownies. Oh, yeah, she gave me one called “Happy Childhood”, too. I wonder if this was hint? Here’s one more suggested diet for your choice

The Government has issued new guidelines for a healthy diet. They advise you to:

1. List your ten favourite foods.

2. List your five favourite drinks.

3. List all green vegetables that look like marsh grass, fur balls, or little trees.

4. List water.

5. Avoid 1 & 2; eat only 3; drink only 4.

Thanks for listening. ;D Diane

  1. Reblogged this on Inspiredweightloss.

  2. I wasn’t originally aware of the chopstick idea, but developed it on my own recently. But, I figured someone else had to have come up with it at some point. I have to say, I like the strategy, especially when I’m eating something I don’t want to eat too much of. As for eating a steak, it can be done, you just have to cut the steak into little bits. Probably not worth the effort though. By the time you’re done cutting, the steak will be freezing.
Although, you can always do the cutting before the cooking, or just cut as you go.
While I like the idea, I don’t use it all that often.
