I’ve Got A Screw Loose – In My Butt

Seriously! I have a screw loose and it’s in my bum. I saw the orthropod (orthopaedic surgeon) yesterday about the cup of my left artificial hip needing replacing. The cup is moving and is slipping out of place in the bone of my pelvis – the hip socket. It seems there is a screw there but it’s loose and I feel it in my left bum cheek. So, I can’t move my leg out to the side without abject pain.  I can’t stand or step on it in a certain way or the cup slips and my leg slides off. Well, that’s what it feels like. So, it wasn’t the sciatic nerve or tendonitis or bursitis. I’ve got a chip off the old ball and a screw loose!

It needs to be fixed – soon. I’m going to see if I can get it put off ’til June so I don’t miss any work. I am not a happy camper. My car has a 10 year warranty shouldn’t my hip? Can I sue? Hmmm? Is it true that to every cloud there is a silver lining?

Oh, well. All this drama and pain is making me throw a pity party for myself! I’m eating too much and probably drinking too much, too. I had two beers last night and I don’t usually drink beer. Sigh. I’m supposed to start our spring break and Norm and I were going to do a road trip to the states and casino-hop down the Olympic Peninsula. SIGH! We’ll go anyways after Monday and I will talk to the special specialist who does these redos – that happens to be my hip specialist who was on holidays with HIS kids. At least he’ll be rested.

Actually, I don’t feel very hungry this morning. Maybe this is a good time for reflection on the future not regret for the past. Even if I don’t get better there are all kinds of wheelchair athletics, aren’t there? Maybe I could become an armchair yoga instructor. If I put all the food far away and up high I WILL lose weight by stretching, exercise and avoidance. Yeah, that might just work.

Enough of this. I’m going to have a shower and start the day over! It’s St Patrick’s Day so have lots of green, Irish fun. Thanks for listening. ;D Diane

  1. It sucks when life throws you a curve ball. In this case, I guess it’s a “screw ball”, though. That said, the only thing I can suggest (the obvious, of course, is “Don’t give up!” I’m sure you’ve heard that enough times already.) is that you get creative with your exercise.

Sit down and plan what kind of exercises you are GOING to do that won’t cause further damage to your hip. They do exist. If you want some help, let me know.

Also, you need to make sure that hip stays stable. Corner your Dr. and find out what can be done for now to make that happen, until you can get surgery.

These are things that a person who is GOING TO SUCCEED would do. That means they will help you to fight off the depression that you are no doubt feeling, even though the depression itself will try to tell you that you’re not depressed. That’s the same depression that has you turning to food, at this, a very hard time for you.

OK, enough preaching. Happy St. Pat’s. Feel better!

  2. Thanks! i’m getting all kinds of wonderful positive feedback. So far the big “D” depression hasn’t hit. I’m just really angry and disappointed. Oh, well, new challenges to share.
