Can Leftovers or Write-offs Help My Hunger?

Food tip for Today! 

LEFTOVERS HAVE NO CALORIES: An extra pork chop, the crust of bread, half a cupcake, anything intended for the garbage has no calories regardless of what happens to it in the kitchen.

I am so hungry. It’s only 6AM but I have the HUGE hunger today. It’s a good thing I have to work or I would be cleaning out the fridge and not much of it would go into the garbage. I hate the idea of wasting food. There’s only Norm and I living here now and the girls only come over on Sunday but I still cook for 4-6 people at any given time. It doesn’t help that I can’t eat as much at a sitting. I read somewhere that leftovers don’t have any calories because you already counted them in the main meal. It makes sense, doesn’t it?

But my fridge is full of leftovers. You know the drill: real food; leftovers and write-offs. I have apples, oranges, vegetables (including 3 pounds of onions because they have no calories unless I fry them – mmmmm fried onions!), four kinds of cheese, salad dressings and sauces and yogurt. There are drinkables in there, too: 1 cider, the water jug, milk (1%), pop (it’s Norm’s and PC so it’s not really a bad pop), juice and a nice rose’. Then there are the leftovers…Nando’s chicken (Norm ate all the leftover fries. Thanks Sweetie!), chicken with curry noodles; meatloaf (the drool is starting); wilted strawberries (a tragedy but neither of us wants to eat the last ones); 1/3 of an omelet (don’t ask – it may be a write-off); and something dark in a Tupperware container that I am afraid to open.

I could take the noodles for lunch. I could take the chicken but I think they are just wings and cold wings don’t do it for me. I’m thinking the meatloaf would be glorious for breakfast and I’ll turf the omelet. Okay, okay I’ll do a salad from all the veggies. I think I saw some herb and basil feta in there and that would “calcify” (add calcium and fortify) the veggies.

Well, I’ve had two cups of good coffee and now I’ll eat the yogurt with the strawberries (well inspected and trimmed, of course). So, thanks for listening. ;D Diane
